Your garden birds need you, all year round.

There’s a persistent rumour that garden birds don’t need feeding through the summer. The truth is the opposite.

Birds rely on you more than ever during warmer months. Natural food sources become scarce at exactly the time they need the most energy.

And particularly during Spring & Summer when natural foods are at their lowest but your birds need much more energy due to nesting, breeding and raising young.

That’s where you come in.

At Johnston & Jeff, we believe every garden can play a vital role in supporting healthy bird populations. By continuing to feed through summer, you’re helping birds survive the most demanding stage of their life cycle.

Just like your birds, don’t forget to PECK:

P – Protect the birds
Spread feeders around the garden and away from covered areas.

E – Eyes open for problems
Watch out for signs of distress or build up of old food.

C – Choose quality feed
The better the feed, the higher the energy and quicker the uptake.

K – Keep it clean & safe
Change water daily and clean feeders weekly.

Why summer feeding matters

During breeding season, adult birds are burning huge amounts of energy collecting food for chicks and themselves. Insects may be harder to find, and natural habitats are increasingly pressured by weather and land use changes.

Reliable food in your garden can make a real difference to survival rates and fledgling success.
